Jobless claims jump 31% in July

I missed this yesterday.  You can't have a housing recovery without the unemployment situation improving.
EDD attributed this year's decline to the fact that benefits payments for an estimated 510,000 Californians were suspended while Congress fought over the legislation to continue extended aid.  The agency expects total payouts to go back up in August, reflecting the people who got back on the unemployment rolls.
This is the continued weakness in the labor market
